“Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense dancing. – Clive James.
Wednesday’s challenge on partner Susan and my alternate site was FAIRGROUNDS.
The word itself inspires a myriad amount of images of fun, adventure, daring and of course a change from the humdrum of daily routines. That in most instances is a good thing.
However there is a downside to all this hype. A majority of people attending such gala events tend to put their common sense and good judgement on the back burner in the hopes that they will discover something new and exciting.
At a recent Edmonton K-Days event ( formerly called Klondike Days) one food booth offered more adventurous palates Kraft Dinner (Mac and Cheese) combined with ice cream ( possibly a vanilla flavor) served in an ice cream cone wrapping.
The very idea of it sounds disgusting and going against the traditional way of enjoying Mac and cheese on a plate at the dinner table.
A Global Television weather forecaster was assigned to evaluate this creation and the look on his face as he bit into the unusual “treat” offered viewers his feelings of unease as he tasted this agglomeration of disgust and confusion.
The owner of this food booth did not say whether his latest offering had a ready made market of its own but there is the likelihood that a significant amount of his product was hurled into a trash bin at day’s end.
I wonder if the hype and hoopla of these midway attractions encourage a number of the attendees to throw common sense and caution to the wind and step outside their comfort zone to experience novelties they would otherwise find unpalatable.
So much for eating your dinner before you eat dessert…

I guess some folks want to have it both ways.

Some people go to extraordinary lengths to get themselves on TV! What a revolting combination! 🙂

I feel sorry for the tv personality who has tasks like these as part of his assignments.

I agree, but imagine the laughs they have back at the studio post-production – it must be similar to the hilarity in the school staffroom!

Agree with you 100 per cent.

Such a disgusting combination. But some people will go to great lengths for a small bit of their fifteen minutes of fame.

You could say it was done in very bad taste.
