Your camera – visible extension of you

““Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”— Don McCullin

Brenda, a  female public relations photographer ,was busy snapping “candid” photos of the people attending a double header baseball game. The camera and lens she used was appropriate for her profession. – gc

This week’s challenge on partner Susan and my alternate site was CAMERA.

Years ago when I was in the newspaper game I was hired as an editor reporter for a community newspaper and needed the appropriate photographic equipment  to cover all manner of events that occurred in that community.

Now I use a Canon Sure Shot camera whose size is small enough for me to capture moments such as the one above without my having to slog around camera lenses, tripods and other such essential equipment to get the job done.

With my smaller camera ( which I tuck safely inside one of my handy jacket pockets I can not only capture the photographic moment at hand but also interact with the subject of my photo.

For me the small style of camera does the job quite nicely. – gc

    • Hi Judy! My Canon camera fits snugly in my pocket and I enjoy getting close to the subject of my photos. Bulky equipment and tripods detract from the spontaneity of the moment.

  1. I agree with you, Gerry, my iPhone serves me perfectly well for the same reasons that you use your Canon.

If I’m intending to visit somewhere for the sole purpose of taking photographs I’ll take my Sony along.

I have a tripod but I’m not serious enough to cart it around and use it for photographs. Previously I used it in my capacity as school IT manager (dogsbody) with a video camera Today it sits in the garage forgotten about… until now!

Thank you for the reminder, maybe I might take some portrait photos of the family. 🙂
