T O O  B I G  F O R  T H E   E A S T E R  B U N N Y  T O  D E L I V E R 

This week’s Wednesday Challenge on partner Susan and my other site was EASTER EGG.

As the weather gets warmer and we all get antsy to once again go outdoors and get some fresh air it is well worth the effort to get into the car, pack the kids and your camera and discover those little nuggets of the unusual that flourish in many small towns that dot the map around us.

Vegreville /ˈvɛɡrəvɪl/ is a town in central Alberta, Canada located on Highway 16A approximately 103 km (64 mi) east of Edmonton, Alberta’s capital city. 

A large percentage of Vegreville’s population is of Ukrainian Canadian descent, and it is home to the world’s largest pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg).

On a drive in the country last Saturday with a friend we were discussing the upcoming Easter Sunday holiday and as a result took  a road trip to capture a photo of this structure.

At first it was difficult to find due to an error on my part. The access to the town is via Highway 16 A but a modern highway skirts the town. Taking the modern road enables you to avoid seeing this landmark.

The egg is sheltered in a small tourist park and you have to be on the alert to find it or you will be out of luck.

I am standing by the egg to give you a rough idea of how large it actually is.

We all have these jewels in our own backyard waiting to be rediscovered.
