“My grandfather used to say that once in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policemen, and a preacher, but everyday, three times a day, you need a farmer. – Brenda Schoepp.
This week’s Wednesday Challenge on partner Susan and my alternate site, WEEKLY PROMPTS, was FARMERS MARKETS.
This one local farmers market located in North West Edmonton opened last weekend despite overcast skies, the occasional rain shower and of course the presence of the dreaded Covid 19 virus.
Die hard fans of the open air market braved the inclement weather and obeyed the rules of social distancing and wearing a face mask ( mask wearing in public has not been deemed as necessary as yet).
The number of exhibitors this year was down significantly from last but the shoppers still filed through the market area to see what bargains were available there.
Flowers vendors ( on the left) and one spruce lawn chair furniture maker set up their stands early hopeful that the weather would improve and their sales would benefit.
The market was set up adjacent to a Safeway outlet and the covered roof of the venue enticed bargain hunters to patiently wait their turn in line.
Residents in this neck of the woods flock eagerly to these markets which usually open in May and run through until the beginning of October.
The market is open three days a week : Wednesday and Saturday -Sunday.
The occasional street performer, musician, photographer and pantomimist join the activities on the weekend.
