These “sloppy Joes” are disgusting

Let me state for the record that I love sloppy Joes.

How do you make one at home?

  1. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids.
  2. Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

According to legend, a cook named Joe at Floyd Angell’s café in Sioux City, Iowa, added tomato sauce to his “loose meat” sandwiches and the “sloppy joe” sandwich was born. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Yes once again I have taken creative liberty and labelled the two drivers of the trash removal vehicle a couple of sloppy Joes. The men are mere faces in the crowd and probably this anonymity helps them keep their current paid positions.

Last weekend was move out day for a number of residents and the green trash container was filled to overflowing. Bloated green trash bags filed the trash bin to over capacity.

The front of this particular bin was festooned with trash bags and it was expected that the entire mess would be hoisted away when the truck’s hydraulic front end fork got a stranglehold on the container. and plop everything into the truck’s innards for transport away from here.

But these two jokers were creative and merely hoisted the trash in the air, emptied the contents and then slyly pushed the remaining loose trash to a convenient hiding spot behind the dumpster and in front of a NO DUMPING sign. How brazen!

Anyway this is Tuesday and the mess has grown a bit more disgusting. The female site manageress was informed of the situation and she “appeared” to be miffed by the incident. She told me she would look into it. And that is all she really did: look into it.

Thursday is the next scheduled trash pick up. Only time will tell  how much of the past weekends leftovers will be removed from here.

I guess creative thinking should be rewarded  but not to the point of creating health and safety issues.

    • So true Susie. The ground keeping crew finally placed the trash in the container. It is sad that management here does not want to raise a fuss over the matter even though there are band of field mice plaguing some residents . I have moved to higher ground but can still relate to the issue. I hope all is well with you.

  1. My education continues!
I knew what a sloppy Joe was in regard to a slovenly person, but I’d never heard of the sandwich before. From your description I can see why the sandwich was so named, I imagine it must be impossible to eat this without making a sloppy mess!
