Red a color of life, love, passion.

“Red”, I write “is the color of life. It’s blood, passion, rage.. Red is the color of love. Beating hearts and hungry lips. Roses, Valentines, cherries.” ― Mary Hogan, Pretty Face.

This weeks photo challenge on Susan and my alternative website  “Weekly Prompts” celebrates the color red. It is a passionate and intense shade and during the month of February is intrinsically linked to St Valentine’s Day (February 14) and the celebration of loving and friendship.

Valentine’s Day is a few weeks away and many retailers have already stocked their shelves with boxes of heart-shaped chocolates, chocolate kisses, teddy bears and of course Godiva chocolate.

The sweets are yummy and all have become a traditional part of that special day.

The sale of Valentine’s Day cards and red roses are also a highlight of the day. It’s funny that one dozen long stem roses one week before the big day costs 50 per cent less than when purchased on the day itself.

I imagine the sale of Victoria Secret lingerie also experiences a sales spurt this time of the year.

Oh well it is a special day of the year when warmth and love and friendship are exemplified despite the cold and the snow piling up outside. –  gc

  1. I had a feeling that your own response to our challenge might focus on the romantic essence of the colour and I’m glad it did.

Ignoring the commercial aspect – I love Valentine’s Day, it facilitates opportunities for those with pining hearts to declare loving sentiments, and perfect for those wishing to reaffirm long held love and affection.

I am such a romantic, how could I not enjoy this post! 🙂

    • When I was a child I thought that bonbons were chocolates of a different color. What did I know huh? 🙂 Now it is almost impossible to find bonbons. Who knew?
